Andromida

Heavy metal music and hard rock is not a recent thing in Egypt. It’s been going on since the late 1960s. Surprisingly, there were tens of hard rock and heavy metal bands and a lot of music festivals going on at that time. However, after a few years, those bands became inactive, some traveled, some got married and became busy with their families, or simply, grew busy. Yet, only one band stood the test of time, which is, Andromida, the only living band since the 1980s and the only Pink Floyd tribute band in Egypt.

Edgar Allan Poe was an American author, poet and a literary critic who lived between 1809 and 1849. Poe is known for his mystery tales and gothic poetry (Stableford, 2003), he is also considered the inventor of detective fiction genre. Poe was a great influence on the American literature at that time, apart from showing that short stories has a powerful effect on the reader, he also contributed in the metaphysical genre, especially in the area of Dark Romanticism (Kellman, 2006). Poe believed that a perfect story should be read in one sitting, as well as being tightly controlled and highly compressed style of narrative that discusses topics that everyone can relate to (Poe, 1846).

collage1Playing rock or heavy metal music in Egypt is not an easy thing, especially when you’re a female. Heavy Metal music has always been a taboo in Egypt, since the huge incident in the 1990s at the Baron palace. Back in the 1990s, there was a group of young men and women who used to gather at the Baron palace, putting on some extreme metal music and were accused of preforming satanic rituals. Since then, any genre of heavy music – even progressive rock – was considered satanic, weird, and a non-preferable genre of music. Read the rest of this entry →

The Beauty of Being Damaged

The Beautiful Nerd

“Damaged people are dangerous because they know they can survive.” – Josephine Hart.

We’ve all had a bully in our lives. Someone who is mean and picks on you constantly. Whether it’s at home or at school, whether it was physical or verbal bullying – we all know a bully or had an encounter with one. The victim is often left anxious, depressed with little to no self-esteem and the haunting feelings of uselessness and helplessness.

My depression is deeply rooted in my childhood, which consisted of neglect, fear and the constant need of approval from parents and teachers. Speaking of my own personal experience with bullying, at…

Published 11/04/2013 by Noorhan Aboubakr

**This is an old post that I’m re-blogging**

As you all know, I have been really interested in Metal music and its sub genres since a huge while now. What I love about Dubai that it’s open to everything new. I always knew about Metal Djs in different cafes that occur every month, but as always, I hear that unfortunate sentence ‘It is 21+!’ But that was long ago now! Read the rest of this entry →

As you guys all know, I’m a writer and planning a new book wasn’t easy. Just few days ago an idea hit and was actually inspired by two very pretty  girls I know. So the idea of the book that I want to start is a non-fiction collection of true stories events. It will be mainly around people who tried/are trying their hard to ruin your lives; bastards, douche bags, mean girls, back stabbers, two-faced people, b**ches 😀 Read the rest of this entry →
